Hi, I am at the same place now & looking into route 23. Have enquired at the local tourist office & a guy (which I made a friend with after some beers) told me that it's very or extremely difficult for small bikes & ok-ish for 250cc+. From other sites such as Gt-rider the bridge just south of Phin is passable by narrow boats for both big & small motorbikes so a bicycle is not a problem. The road apparently has plenty of rocks & it's easy to get lost at junctions. I will be going there tomorrow on Yamaha Nouvo Elegance LC 135 & will report back if still alive ;)

Great blog Eoin (hope I got your name right). Actually it might be a little too real, kinda like me watching videos of myself playing tennis, a game I love (why isn't life more fair!!).
There are some nice people (Ie. more hospitable to strangers) in Canada (Im from Vancouver), fewer than the USA from my experience and even less than from Colombia where I plan to spend my 8th month and 4th trip starting in Feb 2012.
You had so many problems and crap happen that would have been more than bearable, even fun if the people in the area had been more hospitable, generous, thoughtful, easygoing etc.
Makes me realize I can be similar to my compatriots on occasion. Traveling & just plain living is a tricky business I guess.
I read a bit of your blog in Santa Marta, Colombia. You got some negative comments from it which I don't think you deserved (painting Colombians as whore loving drug users). I think they way overreacted.
Great writing especially on the human condition, I will search out what else you have blogged relating to Santa Marta (if there is more).
Thanks William
